What’s Happening With Wine?

It Just Takes A Little Effort

With all the articles and information about the wine industry strewn about, it is hard for us wine enthusiasts to decipher what is truly happening with the direction of the wine industry and whether we will be able to afford good wine. Sadly, there is also a lot of misinformation creating our hesitation to pursue more wines. Instead, this misinformation is halting our wine acquisitions and exploration of additions to our own collections, creating choices to move away from wine to other spirits and beer.

As a promoter of wine, specifically California wines at this point, it is now required to delve deeper into the stacks and cases carefully to find those great values that are hiding there, and make sure we utilize more comprehensive research to learn about the stories of the wineries to help us choose the wines that stand out with more scrutiny and detail. By doing this, we can actually improve our knowledge throughout, and gain a greater appreciation of the juice we so covet.

This requires more effort on our part to continue our passion for wine but, that doesn’t mean we must give up our mantra that “wine is grape fun!”

How we value the wines we choose or prefer should be based more on how we intend to enjoy them. The wine industry will remain and there will be great wines
to enjoy regardless of the shuffling of wineries through acquisitions or changes. Yes, many of our favorites may be priced just out of our reach for a while but,
don’t fret as there is plenty of our loving juice to find that meets our desired tastes and enjoyment.

Do not let the “news” distract us from our journey to find the flavor profiles and styles we love. They may not always be from the same AVA or have the same
label but, our preferences are there. We just need to put in a little more effort. The “effort,” in and of itself, is what makes finding great wines so much fun. So,
enjoy the process no matter what you see. You must trust that your favorites are there.
